2015 BATH - Race RecapPublished by
The morning greeted this year's BATH with 40-degree temps, light & variable winds, and drizzle-becoming-moderate/steady rain. Nearly everyone who'd committed showed up, with even a few race-day entrants. In all, 16 toed the line, with 11 finishing the half marathon, 2 finishing shorter distances, and 3 jumping in with pacing duties. The half started at a modest pace, with the leaders running 87-89 sec laps and several other packs settling into their own consistent paces not far behind. The lead pack came through 7 mi at 41:30 and 10 mi at 58:57. Mike Davies and Josh Kaplan then dropped the pace to low-5:40s for the final 5k. A couple minutes back, Dan Reed captured 3rd overall and 1st Masters with a 78:48 PR, with pacing compatriot Jeremy Bauer not far behind in 79:20, also a PR. Filip Schmole rounded out the top 5 with his 80:11 PR. With each subsequent finisher, the crowd at the finish line - despite being soaked and chilled to the bone - grew bigger to cheer on those still grinding out their final laps. Dan Sheil presented special handmade BATH awards to the Top 3 Overall before the crew dispersed to go enjoy hot showers and sore muscles after a memorable morning.
